HOW TO START A WEDDING BLOG
THE THREE BASIC STEPS
1) DOMAIN NAME AND HOSTING
OK, the first thing you'll need to do is decide what you want your domain name to be?
Here are a few quick questions to ask yourself:
Try brainstorming as many creative ideas as possible that describes the personality
of your blog that you want to portray to your intended audience. Once you’ve finally decide on a few
possible names, head over to Bluehost to see if your domain name is available by
entering it in the box that looks like this:
If your preferred domain is already registered, try a few different variations
(singular, plural, hyphens) or simply go back to brainstorming some new ideas.
Once you've registered an available domain, you'll then have to choose a hosting plan.
Hosting is like renting space on the web to display your blog. Bluehost has great rates
and gives you your domain name for free if you decide to host with them.
I'd recommend starting off with their smallest hosting package for now. The starter plan
is a great choice which allows you to host one (1) blog/website with unlimited bandwidth.
You'll have to pay in one lump yearly sum so keep that in mind at checkout.
During the checkout process, you'll have the option to purchase additional services
and upgraded features, but none of them are necessary for starting your blog.
You can always upgrade later if you want.
Continue through the Checkout process until you get to the confirmation screen.
2) INSTALLING WORDPRESS
Congrats! You've registered your domain name and now it's time to start setting
up your blog. The most popular blogging platform is Wordpress (it's free), so these
next few steps will help guide you to installing Wordpress on your hosting account.
Don't worry, it's not hard :)
First thing to do is login to Bluehost and navigate to the Website Builders section.
The first button is the WordPress logo. Click on that to open the next page.
This is the page that you'll actually begin your Wordpress “Install”. Click on the
green button to activate.
Next, choose your domain name from the dropdown list and click "Check Domain".
On the next screen you'll have to accept the terms and conditions box and then
click the “Install Now” button.
The install process will begin and a progress bar will show at the top of the page.
After a couple minutes, the Wordpress install will complete and you'll be able to
log into your wedding blog and start blogging! That's it!
3) DESIGN AND AESTHETICS
You're now officially ready to begin your very own wedding blog!
Now comes the fun part... picking out your theme!
Wordpress has tons of free Wordpress themes that you can choose from, but
if you want a stylish, unique wedding blog with a look that will wow your
visitors, you might want to look into premium themes.
I recommend checking out:
ThemeForest - By far, the most popular place to find a premium theme. Tons of
different designs and custom features. Chances are you'll find something you
Template Monster - Lots of newer designs, but a bit more expensive than other
places. Great place to find a professional looking Wordpress template.
Tip: Make sure the Wordpress theme you choose is mobile responsive. This
means that your blog will load correctly on both desktop and mobile devices.
SPREAD THE WORD!
Once you get your wedding blog up and running its then time to get some visitors.
Below are a few bits of advice to help you promote your blog:
